2pm- The hottest time of the day....

Today was a beautiful day, and now im just relaxing. Recently my sister Joey has been interested in Asian Hip Hop, more specifically Korean. So... she sent me a link to a youtube video of a band called 2pm... have a look... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92pakyGpTOM&feature=related . They are most awesome and fantabulous dancers. I believe that you do not need to know or understand the language a song is sung in, but merely be able to appreciate the music. Thus, I believe that 2pm is FRIKKIN AWESOME! =) they are quite good looking too ;) You can see some photos of them here..... http://community.livejournal.com/omonatheydidnt/813551.html#cutid1 and here.... http://community.livejournal.com/omonatheydidnt/795479.html#cutid1

Thanks to the writer of that particualr blog for allowing the rest of us to appreciate the band! =)

anyhoo guys and dolls! I know I haven't posted much lately, but ill be more regular from now on... promise!! Love and Peace x

Youth Day

I'd like to wish you all a fabulous Youth Day as it is in South Africa. It marks the beginning of the tragic Soweto Riots 1976. Youth Day is representative of one of many achievements the country has made in an attempt to free themselves from Apartheid. It should be noted that people were killed during these attempts and therefore we should commemorate them for their achievements. Happy Youth Day to all, Im hoping you all remember why the public holiday exists, it is because of the Youth back then that todays Youth are so free-spirited. Viva South Africa! Love and Peace x

Creativity :)

I come from a very creative family, everyone has their own talents and quite a few of us are artists, some amature and not so good (me) whilst others (Salman & Joey) are amazing and so good at what they do! I asked my cousin Salman to give me something to put on my blog... its called- Alter Ego!.. :) its great, i love it... Not only has he shown us his uber excellence in drawing but he has also displayed his super amazing personality and sense of humour too. You are gifted Salman! thats for sure!! :) Thanks for doing the picture! love you loads! :D x

Look at it! makes me giggle *haha*, what makes it even funnier is that I imagine him dressed like this albeit it isnt his real alter ego... it does make the mind wonder though ;) ha! Hello Kitty! *hahhah* this is too brilliant, what tops it off for me is the fairy wings and wand :P Excellent... Salman you have out done yourself once again! ;)

I want...

...a silver bullet caravan!!! they are awesome, i love the retroey-ness!! :) and they are beyond cool!!! a must have in a lifetime, they're way better than other caravans! .... the log dude on camp had one!! :) It has to look a little something like this... even though the smaller ones look cuter, the big ones are just more convenient...

And some more....

The surroundings were so beautiful and peaceful... the walks were amazing minus wild rabbits and bugs... :)

Is it a flare, is it a meteor, is it a transformer, is it a plane...

Just a few pictures from camp... Incase your'e wondering about the title of this particular blog; it all has something to do with an orange glowy thing in the air that we saw while we were sitting around the fire :D...

Im so pleased I got some colour- wahey for my tan. I smell... like fire cos we had a braai!- fun and yummy times!! i want to go back, the only hitch is that there is noooooo phone signal, so I couldn't phone/text/chat to anyone. The peace was great though!!... couldn't have asked for a better location... It's great to "rough" it once in a while and fun to experience different things!!! Pics to follow soon!!! :D

Saying it out loud...

I’m writing this, whilst I watch the snow drift to the ground, making acquaintances with what would seem its brothers, sisters and friends. It’s reminding me of you and me, our love for each other, our separation and our rekindle. Watching the snow brings me much joy, but never the amount of joy you bring to me, my heart and soul. I smile endlessly, for I am happy. It all seems so peaceful, and tranquil. The tranquillity of it bringing me to a subdued state of mind. I can now hear my heart beating for you, yearning, and the excitement trembling within me upon thinking of you. I now realise that my heart is nothing without you, empty, still. You complete me, after all these years I’m pretty certain that you are my fresh breath, one that instils happiness within me, a happiness that is evident through the pounding of my heart and stretch of my smile. This is the happiness within me, shining through making its mark and displaying what is true, that is my dear, my love for you! The love I have for you is guiding me towards commitment, a commitment that I am making to you for the rest of my life. I will always be here for you; I’ll be your pillar of strength as you have been for me. We are a huge island on this planet, surrounded by an ocean of love creating our world. I love you, and this is the way it will always be.

Study Buzz!!

I've been studying all day!! its been kinda boring but kinda beneficial too. I feel like im taking steps in the right direction. I just hope it all comes to me in the exam I.A!! :) Also did a timed essay... did it in 33 minutes which is good as statistically most marks are gained in the first 20 minutes of an exams... and having done it in 33 minutes will mean that I have sufficient time to check it over and make sure i havent made any mistakes!!! I've decided on the rest of the topics that i wish to do and will be revising them pretty soon!!! Im praying it all comes together in the end!! Fingers crossed! ;) x

Book Review =)

Just last week I had posted a note regarding wearing Hijab at work, in response to someone elses post... my post was... "This is something that I have had to face too, working and living in an environment where Muslims are looked down upon. Despite all this, there is a need and a sense of urgency where we are concerned in persevering with our appearances and faiths and demanding what we are entitled to. At the end of the day we are human and we have a right to work, and a right to earn. If you feel that your position in the workplace is being undermined because of your appearance, you must take a dignified stand and fight for what you want (equal opportunities, diversity etc...). In this day and age, Muslims are under immense scrutiny and we all need to make an effort to defend our beliefs. Sayed is right, it will eventually come from Allah!... ;) InshaAllah you will find what you are looking for."

All of which is true!!!  Anyone of any religion or faith should stand for their beliefs and defend what is entitled to them... Anyway, so someone had seen what I had written and encouraged me to read the book, Girls of Riyadh by Rajaa AlSanea ( Thanks alot for the recommendation :) ),  on the basis that the perception people have of Muslims is due to our own behaviour and the way we reflect our religion. I didn’t have to read the book the agree what she was saying but the book most certainty played a huge role in asserting what she said and what I agreed to.

The book was written in an aim to expose the lives of four young Saudi women and through this display the way in which they lead their lives, the trials and tribulations they face under the nail of oppression, simply due to the lack of free will, and constant jurisprudence; left, right and centre, all of which is a reality. I am my no means criticising Islam but I am criticising the way in which the people of Saudi are governed and more so their inability to defend themselves from outside influence. Living in Saudi means that these four women are being forced to live a life of secrecy and live by traditions which force them to inhibit what I would describe as sin. I’m trying so hard not to be judgemental here, but those women certainly chose that life for themselves, they chose to drink, chose to give themselves to men, and chose to deceive their own hearts. They didn’t have to, as the society they live in failed them and allowed for it to happen. Saudi is a country that is supposedly at the heart of Islam, meant to be so pure yet is the hub of so much wrong. After having read that the book was banned in Saudi, it was clear to me that again, Muslims cannot hide their behaviour, and we most certainly catalyse the adverse publicity from the west.

I support the author and her bravery for writing what she did, and for her courage to expose the truth behind the black abayah’s (Black long traditional Arab dress) and white thobe’s (White long traditional dress for men). Albeit, there is most definitely a strong attempt to uphold cultures and traditions. I pose a question to you... What’s the use? When the people living in Saudi are finding influence from outside to fuel their secret lives. There is something terribly wrong in this particular equation, and it needs to be resolved in order to find peace with the rest of the world. Rajaa AlSanea, has opened a platform for truth and honesty, and more so an opportunity for the hub of Islamic living to be at peace with itself in terms of finding and creating a balance with tradition and modernity.

I recommend this book to all!!!

I hope that in time, we are all able to realise our faults and from that learn that we can be better people, ultimately that will mean the world will be a better place.

Much Love x

Foolish Facebook!

Facebook are retards!!!! ughh!

WHY CHANGE SOMETHING IF IT WORKS PERFECTLY FINE?

They have removed the "Status Updates" and "Recently Updated" lists from the Friends section!!! which is stupid. We all know twitter is for status updates, but it was nice having use of all facilities in one place, how retarded is that?  Also, I like seeing which friend of mine has recently updated their profiles, but now I cant bloddy well see it because its gone!!!  I've sent them a complaint because I thought they should hear what a tits-up I think it is.

Lacking motivation

... Lately I havn't been feeling myself 100%... Not entirely sure why but I have an inkling... I need to start studying but I havn't been motivated or in the right state of mind. My exams are slowly approaching and now would be the right time to start. I admit that I am being a tad lazy, but im never like this. So I'm going to need a kick up the bum to get me started, or even better get back what I'm missing... I handed in a piece of coursework yesterday, I'm hoping I get a pass as that is all I'm really expecting out of it, not a 2.1 and not a 1st...

What always crosses my mind is teaching methods and studying methods, if it wasn't so boring we'd all do it right? So whats going to get us keen and want to take a second look? Dont get me wrong I love the course although I do feel it could use a little bit of ooomph, as opposed to the constant slur of lecturer's voices and the blur of powerpoints... it's all very grey... Especially due to the subject matter- sometimes it can be exciting, other times it's rather the opposite :/. I know for a fact that when I want something to interest me, It needs to stimulate my mind...

Alot of things stimulate my mind but at the moment everything seems to lack oomph! It may also be "end of year syndrome" I made that term up but I wont be surprised if there isn't a psychological term for it... Lets face it, we all get lazy towards the end of something especially when theres something more exciting to look forward to... I'm looking forward to my holiday, I intend to get a job, but theres nothing more exciting than summer.

Guess what? I already feel a tad more motivated, talking about it has helped and I'm looking forward to the summer so the quicker I get the academics out of the way, the quicker I can enjoy my holiday. Also I'm taking my own advice in anticipating the future with an open mind, not apprehending it.... Simply because I dont't know whats going to happen next....

I'm open to motivational/ study tips... :)

Peace  x

Freedom Day!

I'd like to wish all South Africans a wonderful day! Hoping this day allows each and everyone of you to remember how far South Africa has come in terms of the development of society, and the freedom from apartheid. Also, I ask you all to remember the people who are still reaping the constraints of what apartheid has left behind...Poverty in South Africa still needs to come along way. I do hope we can all contribute to making the world a better place! I sound like a charity advert, but this is truly a worthy course... Viva South Africa!

On a lighter note.... HAVE A FABULOUS DAY! :)

Featuring...

...Notes on Islam.

You will notice that I follow this blog. It has intrigued me and raised awareness surrounding the spirtituallity within Islam. Additionally, it directs focus on Islamic sciences. Take a look, as many of you might find the articles as interesting as I have found them. Some of you may even feel inspired. The writer of this blog, Samir has clearly devoted alot of time and effort in creating the blog with an aim to inform... He is most certaintly achieving that!! :)

Whilst reading some posts on the blog, my attention was drawn to the poetry section. http://notesonislam.blogspot.com/search/label/Islamic%20poetry ....

A poem by Shaykh Ahmad al-Alawi

Layla

Full near I came unto where dwelleth
Layla, when I heard her call.
That voice, would I might ever hear it!
She favored me, and drew me to her,
Took me in, into her precinct,
With discourse intimate addressed me.
She sat me by her, then came closer,
Raised the cloak that hid her from me,
Made me marvel to distraction,
Bewildered me with all her beauty.
She took me and amazed me,
And hid me in her inmost self,
Until I thought that she was I,
And my life she took as ransom.
She changed me and transfigured me,
And marked me with her special sign,
Pressed me to her, put me from her,
Named me as she is named.
Having slain and crumbled me,
She steeped the fragments in her blood.
Then, after my death, she raised me:
My star shines in her firmament.
Where is my life, and where my body,
Where my willful soul? From her
The truth of these shone out to me
Secrets that had been hidden from me.
Mine eyes have never seen but her:
To naught else can they testify.
All meanings in her are comprised.
Glory be to her Creator!
Thou that beauty wouldst describe,
Here is something of her brightness
Take it from me. It is my art.
Think it not idle vanity.
My Heart lied not when it divulged
The secret of my meeting her.
If nearness unto her effaceth,
I still subsist in her substance.

This poem is truely beautiful and encapsulates the beauty of women, love and happiness. Being a real softy, it brought tears to my eyes. It is most definately a poem filled with honour and grace.

A taste of home... yum yum!

This morning my Mom decided to make Koeksisters, *drool*.... nothing better than a koeksister on a sunday... an addition to boosting my spirits on such a beautiful day...

(Photo from Waitrose.com I'll update later with pics of all home-made goodies ;) )

Koeksisters are a traditional South African delicacy... My Mom makes them the Cape Malay way.... Its a spicy (mixed spice, cinnammon, ginger, orange rind) donut dipped in syrup and coated with coconut. I am now salivating.... :) They were just toooo yummy!!!

My sisters friend is over today and she tried them... thought they were really yummy... Because they are! heheehe! :D

I've joined the blogging buzz...

I finally decided to engulf myself into the cyber-world. Im an internet addict, and thought- why not take it one step further?... So here I am.

I'm a huge fan of blogging and I enjoy taking time out to read some... I'll do a later posts on particular blogs I love reading..

A bit about me....

I'm currently studying Law (llb) at a London University. I absolutely love the course, simply because I have met such wonderful people on it. I owe my enjoyment of the course to Tanya!- She makes it a million times more fun and exciting... Also, Irina who I admire for her 100% commitment to her course and her success! :)

I love my family and friends, they are the fuel  for my life... You are all much loved...

Currently I reside in the UK. I am originally South African. I am extremly proud of my heritage, country and culture.

I adore fashion, lifestyle and food... nothing better than a new pair of shoes, another pair of earrings, a walk down south-bank, perching at a cafe for a panini and macchiato! Bliss!

Im intrigued by other cultures, and I intend on travelling the world to find out more...

Watch this space for more on my life... I am going to make this blog about things that interest me... :)
